Music for Games

a.    Listen to at least 5 different pieces of gaming music/FX

Why did the game maker use this music and its sound FX? Game of Thrones the maker of the game used this music because the music is from the T.V series that it is based on (Game of Thrones) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HR3faBgMI7c . WWE 2K15 this is a good song because it ca help the player get ‘hyped up’ before they go into a match which can sometimes help the player do better in a match (WWE 2K15) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l72IZMfh1yw  . Gears of War has a good soundtrack because it suits the emotion of the characters when it is played with death scenes as well as turning points in the game which changes the person’s emotion (Gears of War) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vYeaclK44Ek . HALO has one of the best game soundtracks ever in a game and so this makes the player enjoy the battle scenes that are involved as well as it making they player want to charge into battle thinking they can do anything https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4usi0MznVMc .

Did it work? If so or not, Why? It worked because it fits the type of game that it is with a medieval feel to the game when the game starts. It works for this game because it helps get the player get into the mood of about to have a fight in the game. I thought that it worked because it brought emotion to the player and even made some players cry with the emotion the music had during death scenes. I think it works very well especially with sad moments as well as battle scenes.

Would you use different music/sound FX and why? No because I think the theme that is used in the game and on the T.V show suites it and gives it a medieval feeling to the player. I would have decided to add some rock songs to the soundtrack because most songs are pop songs and they may not help people get pumped up. I would have not used different music for the scenes that they used in them in. I would use the music they have used because it works very well.

b.    Research (on-line/journals in library) Why is music and sound FX so important within games development? It is important because it helps the player become submerged into the game and if this is not achieved then people will not buy the game.

c.    What is waveform, (wavelength, amplitude, frequency); pitch; Hertz (Hz); decibel level (dB); sound generator (loudspeaker)? A curve showing the shape of a wave at a given time

d.     What is Foley? Relating to or concerned with the addition of recorded sound effects after the shooting of a film.
